St. Rita of Cascia, The Peacemaker was an Augustinian and is best known as the saint of impossible causes. The side altar on the north side our church is dedicated to St. Rita. People from all over the Southland come to light a candles in petition to St. Rita. She is particularly popular with the Armenian culture, many of them thinking that our parish's name is "St. Rita Church". May 22 is the Feast of St. Rita and thousands of Armenians come to our church bringing roses to  exchange and lighting candles in her honor. An Armenian priest, Fr. Rafael, says Mass on this day, in Armenian. There are candles and roses everywhere! In fact, the demand for candles is so enormous, that we find it necessary to close our offices for regular parish business on this day.

The movie, "The Rookie" starring Dennis Quaid, is based on a true story involving St. Rita.
